Nysot drops new song, "Taking Control"
Sallah: Mimiko calls for reflection on Project Nigeria
In an Eid-el-Kabir message issued on his behalf by the State’s Commissioner for Information, Mr. Kayode Akinmade, on Wednesday, the Governor noted that the season called for steadfastness and commitment towards uplifting the nation.
While noting that the nation at this time needed the cooperation of all Nigerians to make things work, he urged all Nigerians to imbibe the spirit of tolerance, love and good neighbourliness among them.
While congratulating Muslims on the Sallah festivities, he noted that it was only by doing this that they would live up to the expectations of God.
Mimiko noted that the current challenges facing the nation, arising from the global economic meltdown, were not insurmountable with collaborative efforts while the people live in peace and harmony and tolerating their differences.
While promising more dividends of democracy for the people of the state, the governor also thanked them for their cooperation and support for government’s programmes.
Eid-El-Kabir: security, well-being of Nigerians remain highest priorities says Buhari
President Muhammadu Buhari has, in this year’s Eid-el-Kabir celebration, felicitated with all Nigerians of the Islamic faith.
In a press release signed by the Senior Special Adviser to the President on Media and Publicity, Garba Shehu, President Buhari also congratulated all Nigerian Muslims who are currently on Hajj in Saudi Arabia.
The statement said that, ”as they join the global Islamic community in celebrating Eid-El-Kabir, President Buhari appeals to Muslims and other Nigerians to be committed to the message of piety, faithfulness, dedication, fortitude, obedience, sacrifice and selfless service which are for the benefit of all mankind.”
According to the statement, the President calls for more patience, fortitude, tolerance, endurance, patriotism and a greater willingness to make personal sacrifices for the good of all as his administration strives to lead the nation towards rapidly overcoming its current security, economic
and developmental challenges.
President Buhari also assured all Nigerians that ”their safety, well-being and progress remain uppermost in his thoughts and actions, and that he
will continue to work with all his might to deliver the positive changes in national life which they expect after his election and inauguration as Head of the Government of the Federation.”
Buhari, in the statement extended his ”heartfelt commiserations to families in Maiduguri and North-Eastern Nigeria who have sadly lost beloved relatives in recent terrorist attacks.”
He said his thoughts and prayers for Divine solace were with all those who have been callously plunged into mourning by mindless terrorists, ”when others are celebrating this year’s Eid-El-Kabir.”
The President has directed the Armed Forces and national security agencies to provide maximum security across the nation during Eid-El-Kabir prayers and celebrations, especially in areas most vulnerable to terrorist attacks.
He went ahead to assure all Nigerians that the days of Boko Haram are numbered.
He said ”Boko Haram’s reign of terror in parts of the country will be finally over very soon as the ongoing military onslaught against the terrorist
sect will continue relentlessly until total victory is achieved.”
My trial is the handiwork of those angry that I’m Senate President – Saraki
Embattled Senate President, Dr. Bukola Saraki, yesterday evening insisted that his trial at the Code of Conduct Tribunal over alleged corruption charges was orchestrated by those not happy with his emergence as Senate President.
DAILY POST recalls that at the Code of Conduct Tribunal, CCT, in Abuja on Tuesday, he pleaded not guilty to a 13-count charge of corruption and false declaration of asset after failing to secure injunctions at a High Court and the Court of Appeal to stop the trial. The CCT however granted him bail on self-recognition after taking his plea.
But in a statement released by his media aide, Yusuph Olaniyonu, yesterday evening, Saraki claimed that he was singled out for prosecution because of his position as the Senate President – an apparent reference to the controversy over his election as leader of the Senate.
It would be recalled that he had defied the ruling All Progressives Congress, APC leadership which had anointed Senator Ahmed Lawan for the position. He got the support of senators of the opposition Peoples Democratic Party, to win the seat with Ike Ekweremadu of the PDP emerging his deputy.
In the statement, Saraki stressed that he previously refused to appear before the tribunal because he was exploring the “opportunity to defend (his) fundamental human rights in other courts.”
“As I stated while taking the plea in the case, I reiterate my belief that the only reason while I am going through this trial is because I am Senate President. If I were to be just a Senator, I doubt if anybody will be interested in the asset declaration form I filled over twelve years ago,” he said.
The statement repeated a claim he made at the tribunal earlier on Tuesday that the trial did not follow due process.
“This belief stems from the fact that Section 3 (d) of the Code of Conduct Bureau and Tribunal Act provides that if there is a breach or non-compliance with any section of the law, the person involved should be given the opportunity to either admit or deny and that in the case of a written admission, no reference to the tribunal shall be necessary,” he said.
Saraki continued that, “if the CCB had followed the guidelines, procedure or the due process provided in its own law, we won’t be having this trial.
“It is my humble opinion that this case is a vivid example that there is still flagrant disregard for due process in our polity. This trial is not only being observed by Nigerians alone, the international community is watching because Nigeria is a key member of this community. So, the executive, legislature and judiciary should do the right thing that will truly demonstrate that we have imbibed the spirit of positive change,” he said.
In the statement, he thanked his colleagues and supporters who trooped out to the court in number in solidarity with him and promised to clear his name.
“It is however necessary for me to thank my colleagues in the Senate for the solid support and solidarity they demonstrated for me. I also thank my counsel for the brilliance they have shown in presenting our case and the supporters who were present in the tribunal in their hundreds. I want to assure you that I am innocent of all the charges and will clear my name in due course,” the Senate President said.
Court dissolves two-year marriage over wife’s arrogance, constant fighting
A two-year-old marriage between a 32-year-old driver, Mr. Adekoya Opeolu and his wife, Bukola, was Wednesday, dissolved by an Ikorodu Customary Court in Lagos over the wife’s alleged arrogance and constant fighting.
The complainant, who resides at Ewu Elepe Road in Ikorodu, had reportedly approached the court to dissolve his marriage, saying that he could no longer cope with his wife’s hostility, whereas, Bukola in her defense statement, did not object to the divorce plea of her husband.
Bukola said, “I am also fed up, we fight every day since the beginning of the marriage, I am no more interested in the marriage.”
The respondent, however, prayed the court to order her husband to take full responsibility of the five month old child of their union.
According to reports, the Court president, Mr Olu Adebiyi, in his ruling, said they should go their separate ways, as all effort to reconcile their differences fell on hard rocks, stressing that the court was not in doubt that the marriage between the duo had broken down irretrievably.
“The court hereby, officially, dissolves the marriage,” Adebiyi ruled.
‘’The custody of the five-month-old baby boy from the marriage is hereby awarded to Bukola. The petitioner is to pay N5, 000 monthly to the respondent for the feeding of the only child of the union,” he added.
The president, reports reveal, also ruled that Opeolu takes charge of the medical and educational needs of the child, adding that any party, who is not pleased with any section of the judgment, should appeal within 30 days from the said date, 23, September, at a higher court.

Mother's day: Clergy women empower bomb blast victim, restate support for Jonathan
As part of its celebration to mark the right of women in Nigeria and across the world on a day tagged mother's day globally, the Nigerian women in clergy under the leadership of prophetess Nonnie Roberson has again reached out to a forgotten victim of Boko Haram Bomb blast who lost her only child in the first Nyanya bomb blast where several people were killed.
Recall that Madam Grace Omokoro Joe, a Widow, lost her only Son, Joel Olukayode, a graduate of Federal University of Technology to the first Nyanya bomb blast. Joel was to resume his first temporary job in Abuja town the said day the incident happened.
At the celebration that saw different clergy women converging at Prophetess Roberson's residence, the women presented different gift items, including rappers, headgears, bags of rice and some cash to wipe the victim's tears on a day they believed she was to receive some gifts from her late Son.
Speaking, Nonnie said, "it is imperative her tears are wiped on a day women all over the world are celebrating."
She said the humanitarian effort was a follow up on the group's earlier promise to remember the woman on events where her Son's death can likely re-awaken her pain.
Nonnie said, "we have been trying to give her all necessary supports, and in our last meeting where we gave her some gifts, we promised to always remember her on days like this. We are a credible body that does not make empty promises. Today, we have invited her to celebrate the mother's Sunday with us. Some youths are part of us as you can see. Going forward, we may have one of the youths from the youth wing of the Women in Clergy to adopt her as a mother."
Prophetess Nonnie also called on Nigerians to contribute towards the revival of the broken pieces of the bereaved woman, saying that accommodation was one of her major challenges.
Responding, Madam Grace Expressed gratitude to the women of God for their selfless efforts towards her matter, stating that only God could repay the hands that give. She said her joy was that her Son died as a good Christian, believing that he is now resting with the Lord.
In her closing remarks, Nonnie urged Nigerian women to collect their PVC, and vote wisely for President Goodluck Jonathan who had all along been gender sensitive. She advised the women to reject any leader who pushes for the abolition of the First Lady's office. Nonnie also advised Nigerian youth to " know their history as that will direct them on who to vote for.

2015 elections- When God rejects a leader by Ali Adoyi
It’s true that one cannot totally override the popular fear of pre or post-election violence, the reason INEC may have fixed the initial date for February 14 (Valentine day). However, there will surely be a new Nigeria after every other thing that may likely transpire before, during and after the elections. This thinking has equally been upheld by positive thinkers who believe that the unity and the survival of the country supersede any individual’s ambition. This to me, is what most of us should believe. Instead of rushing our families to the village out of fear of an impending violence, we ought to establish a firm belief that Nigeria is bigger than our politicians whose interest is to scuttle democracy. They will cause confusion and move their people out of the country, leaving us to leak our own blood. Our fear should rather become our wisdom so we can stand together against all violent politicians.
On several occasions, some Nigerians have called President Goodluck Jonathan, ‘’the Chosen one’’ with the notion that who God has chosen, no one should question. Presidential Spokesman, Doyin Okupe, in defence of the same religious cum political ideology said, “Someone was reported to have said “A new government will be installed on the 29th of May 2015. “Lamentations 3 vs 37 says “Who is he that saith, and it cometh to pass when the Lord commandeth it not? “ Isaiah 7 vs 7 says, “Thus sayeth the Lord God, it shall not stand’ neither shall it come to pass’’
You still need more clarifications on why God chose to dethroned the leadership of Nigeria? Are you so convinced that our dear President has done the will of God and the people of Nigeria? Check again.
Ushafa community decries three-month power outage
Residents of Adefemi in Ushafa, Bwari Area Council of the Federal Capital Territory, are now set to embark on a massive protest to the Abuja Distribution Company of Nigeria over power outage in the area that has lasted for nearly three months.
It would be recalled that exactly this period last year, the same community that hosted former US President, William Jefferson Clinton during his visit to Nigeria had experienced a similar precarious situation of a complete absence of power supply for almost 4 months.
In a protest letter made available to DAILY POST in the early hours of Monday, residents of the community have resolved to march to ADCN office to question the company on why the several applications forwarded to the management on the need to replace its faulty transformer had yielded no fruitful response for nearly three months.
The residents had lamented that since the existence of the community, they had not been supported by any government as the said faulty transformer was actually acquired through communal effort. They wondered why they are left in perpetual darkness by the FCT administration and the power distribution company.
The letter, signed by the Chairman, Adefemi-Ushafa Youth Vanguard, Mr. Adeniyi Lawrence, said the people of the area are now tired of the recurrent power problem in the area and have been pushed to the wall.
The letter reads in part: “We have tried all we could to have a new transformer installed in our area to no avail. We have used all legal means to draw the attention of the distribution company to the current situation, but the company and the FCT administration has remained completely deaf to our plight. The only option left is to register our protest in a march to the company, and by so doing, we must have explored all available options.
‘’The electrification of Adefemi- Ushafa has remained, over time, the sole effort of landlords in the area. We provided for ourselves poles, wires and the transformer that had supplied power to our homes for the past three years. No government, no politician has ever contributed towards resolving our incessant power problem.
‘’Even as disheartening as the situation appears, politicians have not stopped coming to our community for campaign. We therefore warn that this campaign visit must stop henceforth, as we cannot be made to patronize those who have showed little or no concern towards our plights.
‘’ We also wish to remind the distribution company that we can no longer tolerate the situation of last year where they came for their bills after we repaired the same faulty transformer. They must be reminded that they are currently indebted to each household in Adefemi-Ushafa as they promised to refund the 4 months bills collected even in the absence of light. They must be reminded that we will come for a refund anytime soon”.
The letter concluded that residents are currently enmeshed in serious hardship as the absence of power supply has frustrated all business activities in the area, causing serious illness amongst children as a result of heat. It also stressed that water has equally become a major problem even as telecommunication masts in the area have stopped working.
‘’ We are Nigerians and Abuja residents, and we deserve all the benefits attached to living in the capital city, ‘’ the letter emphasized.
The letter also alleged that the fault in the transformer also resulted from poor handling by the staff of the distribution company, warning that if after the protest nothing is done, a more appropriate legal action would be taken against the company.
