Demolition: “We have been living here before FCT was created, we can’t be displaced now” -Residents of Dutse Pe, Dutse Sokale, Dutse Makaranta, Dutse Alhaji cry out over illegal plot to demolish their houses.

The people of Dutse Pe, Dutse Sokale, Dutse Makaranta and Dutse Alhaji of Buwari Area council, one of the largest indigenous settlements in the FCT-Abuja have cried out against an ongoing injustice of house demolition which they believed was the handiwork of some politicians who have developed interest in acquiring the entire area which they have lived for years.
Our correspondent has gathered that houses in the said areas have been marked and earmarked for demolition by the staff of the Abuja Development Control, with the singular reason that they were built on an existing layout, hence residents who are majorly indigenes of Abuja have been asked to quit their land as well as their houses. This development, the people have termed the highest point of victimization and injustice being meted on them in a 21st century Nigeria where the rights of the common man should be protected instead of being grossly violated.
Our reporter s took a trip to Sokale, one of the communities marked for demolition, and residents have hinted that some politicians whose interests were to evict them and take over their land were the brain behind the recent demolition notice, affirming that they have been attracted to the area due to the beautiful topography of the community.
Our correspondent has reported that over one million people will be displaced if the demolition exercise is carried out in the area.
Speaking with some residents at Dutse-Sokale, we were told that the people of Dutse have been living on their land all their lives, even before the creation of the FCT, and they doubt if there is an existing layout as claimed by the FCT administration.

In a three page petition written on behalf of Dutse residents by their solicitors titled “LETTER OF COMPLAINT AGAINST DEMOLITION OF HOUSES AT DUTSE PE, DUTSE SOKALE, DUTSE MAKARANTA, AND DUTSE ALHAJI, the indigenes have cried to the government and the FCT administration to suspend the intended demolition as such action will bring untold hardship to residents of the areas. They appealed that as citizens of Nigeria, they deserve to be fully protected by the laws of the country. They equally asked the government to handle the matter as quickly as possible with a human face, considering the psychological trauma the marking of houses must have generated among residents and indigenes.  They had asked the government and other well-meaning individuals to wade into the matter and resolve it. “We are calling on President Goodluck Jonathan, and the FCT Minister to use his good offices to suspend the intended demolition of our homes. We have children, we have wives, we do businesses, we farm to take care of our people here. The untold hardship this displacement will cause is what the government should first of all consider even before we begin to look at the legal implication of the present predicament. At this point when the people are struggling to cater for their needs, the issue of demolition should not even come to the fore. We have nowhere to go to. This is our home, the home for our children. They all grew up here. We appeal to be treated as citizens of this country and not as second-class citizens. We will continue to be law abiding irrespective of the setback as we have always done.”  They had avowed.
Attached are scanned copies of the letter addressed to the Director of Abuja Development Control.
The FCT Minister, the Chairman, Bwari Area Council, the Director, Abuja Metropolitan Board, the Zonal land Manager, Bwari Area Council were all copied.

Man arrested for impregnating 2 own daughters( PHOTO)

A 58-year-old man from Agbura community, Yenagoa Local Government Area of Bayelsa State was on Thursday arrested and detained by officers attached to the Azikoro Police Station for sexually assaulting and impregnating two of his daughters.

The incident became known after the suspect (name withheld) had attempted severally to rape his third daughter.

The 14-year-old daughter, a student of the Community Secondary School, Agbura, was said to have reported the sexual harassment by her father
to the school counselor during a guardian and counseling session.

The school counselor, who is also the victim’s class teacher, reported the case to the Ministry of Women Affairs which immediately alerted the police.

DailyPost gathered that the suspects arrest was initiated by the Special Adviser to the Governor on Women Affairs, Mrs. Pulu Zifawei.

Information made available to DailyPost, indicated that one of his daughters, 23, had conceived twice for the father but mysteriously lost the babies at birth while the second daughter who was also impregnated by the father has relocated from the community out of shame.

The suspect’s son who declined to
mention his name, said he became aware of his father’s shameful acts at the age of 12.

“Our mother had reported the matter to the members of the family. On that day, our father nearly beat my mother to death. Each time the issue came up, my father would beat my mother,” he said.

When contacted for confirmation of the arrest, the Police command Spokesperson, Mr. Alex Akhigbe, was to be in a meeting as at the time of filing this report but a senior police officer at the Azikoro Police Station confirmed the suspect’s arrest.

He however declined to speak further, noting that only the Police Public Relations Officer can give further details.

Boko Haram rejects Amnesty offer

The radical Isamic group, Boko Haram has turned down the amnesty deal offered by the Nigerian government.
In a audio statement obtained by AFP, the group said there was no reason for a pardon as it has not done anything wrong so far.

Leader of the sect, who has been designated a global terrorist by the United States, said:“Surprisingly, the Nigerian government is talking about granting us amnesty. What wrong have we done? On the contrary, it is we that should grant you pardon,” he said, listing what he described as the state’s “atrocities” against Muslims.

The statement was made while the group spoke in Hausa, the audio recording distributed by email to mostly foreign media organizations, reportedly similar to that of previous Shekau statements.

President Goodluck Jonathan last week gave an indication that he would offer an amnesty to the Islamists, by constituting a committee to coordinate the deal. The panel, comprising security officials, northern leaders and traditional rulers will turn in their report later this month. Since 2009, violent attacks by the group has left over 3000 people, including women, children and security agents dead and some, homeless. Jonathan has come under intense attack by some of the northern leaders on the need to pardon members of the sect as a way of ensuring peace in the region.

ACE raises hope of Okada, Keke riders in Abuja

Despite different notions and gross misconception about the operations of Commercial motorcycles (Okada) and tricycle (Keke Napep) in Nigeria, all is now set for the first ever Okada/ Keke festival scheduled to hold in the Federal Capital Territory, Abuja.
A group known as Alliance for Credible Election in partnership with the Charlyboy Foundation has commenced what could be termed a social rehabilitation of Okada and Keke operators in the country, starting from the Nigerian capital, Abuja.
The event tagged “Rebranding Okada/ Keke riders as nation builders” which aims to emphasize on the economic importance of Okada and keke to the nation will be holding in five area Councils of the FCT from April 15 – 20, 2013. The event is to encourage Okada and Keke riders by giving them a new hope through sensitization and empowerment, as over five motorcycles and one Keke Napep would be won through raffle draws.
According to the organizer and MD of the Alliance for credible Election, Mr. Emma Ezeazu, the event is targeted at creating a positive image of the Nigerian Okada and Keke operators, and at the same time, placing emphasis on the economic importance of the business to the entire nation. He stressed that the raffle draw was open to all Okada and Keke Napep riders free of charge. He disclosed that forms are already out for the initial registration for those who are willing to participate.
“My organization has decided to empower Okada and Keke riders because of their economic importance to the nation. These people have families; they have people to carter for, and have been able to meet up with their financial challenges through this business. Who says Okada business is not lucrative? We are out this time to support them, because we know that all they need is a general orientation on their job, so they can obey traffic rules, and stay alive to continue to take care of their loved ones. If we don’t place value on the job they do, we will all have our share of the blame if we fail to provide other means for them to survive.”
The ACE boss had stated that even as the event aims at promoting the Okada/Keke business, it will equally sensitize them on the need to be law abiding and patriotic.
Also speaking during the press conference held in Gwarimpa, Charlyboy had stated that when you stop a man from doing a particular job, there should be palliatives. He said that in this unemployment era, government must find possible ways to cater for the multitude of young and energetic youth who crave to be self-employed.
"Any where I find a little bit of goodness, I'm always willing to collaborate. For me, it’s always giving hope to the hopeless that matters even in a rotten system like ours. Everybody on this table is guilty of keeping quiet. They just butchered my friend and his son in Onitsha after he was kidnapped few days ago. You all know how my cousin was recently killed. Security is deteriorating, yet no solution is at sight. People kill; get away with it, and the next thing you hear is amnesty. Very soon, armed robbers Association of Nigeria will begin to demand for Amnesty. Hope is not completely lost yet, as we still have a number of good people in this country.

28 persons killed as Tiv farmers, Fulani herdsmen clash

28 persons including a seven year old boy have been reportedly killed in a fresh conflict that erupted between Tiv farmers and Fulani herdsmen at Mbalagh council ward, just three three kilomotres from the heart of Makurdi, the Benue state capital.

17 persons were also said to be missing in the last two day following the waton killings and destruction of property in the area by the invaders.

Vanguard gathered that the Fulani invasion of the community forced women and children who suffered the most in the community to barricade the Makurdi-Lafia expressway, Wednesday, in protest over the insensitivity of the state government to their plight.

The action led to hours of gridlock on the ever busy Makurdi/Lafia road until soldiers from the 72 Airborne Brigade intervened and dispersed the riotous crowd.

Speaking to newsmen about the development, 45-year-old Mnyam Mattew who was physically battered on his right eyes alleged that the women trooped out to draw government’s attention to their plight.

Mattew, an indigene of the affected community said “the last straw which forced the women to the street as early as 7:00am Wednesday was the rape of a 13-year-old girl by three Fulani invaders”.

Meanwhile, the member representing Makurdi North at the State House of Assembly, Mr. Avine Agbom has questioned the involvement of the Army in a civil peaceful protest which had the blessing of the Benue police command.

“I think the military are so involved in this matter because the operation carried out was highly sophisticated. The operation was highly too professional”.

While condemning the attack on the protesting women, Agbom queried the authority of the suspected soldiers whom he said dispersed the protesters using force which he claimed eventually led to the death of one boy and several injured persons now in the hospital.

In his reaction, the Secretary of Maiyatty Allah, Cattle rearers, Alhaji Garus Galolo, denied the allegation that Fulanis killed Tiv farmers, he added that tjose making the allegation were yet to tell the world the truth.

Why I sleep in a Coffin- Charlyboy

If you missed this, read here.

Sleeping in a Coffin???
Point of correction, I do not sleep in a casket, I sleep on my bed, it's big and comfy, I only lay in my "casket" when I do my meditation because it helps me to be focused, it tells me more about the imminence of death. My casket is a reminder. It wakes me up from slumber. It tells me,” guy, you have got little or no time left, wake up, be creative and work” Of course, when I read some of the comments of my people, I know a good number of us are ill-informed about quite a number of things. I think it is more of what the casket represents that shocks my people and they start reading meanings into it, depending on their level of understanding. But one question is, what if the same wood that was used to build the casket was used to make a sofa chair? May be, all the hullabaloo about me sitting on a chair wouldn’t have been there in the first place? So when people vocalize their disapproval of my message via the image of a casket, I understand that they do that from a position of Fear, fear of what the casket represents- Death. So whatever people fear they antagonize. But, the fact that I have reminded myself and even you about death does not really change a thing. It won’t draw your death near, and it won’t even shift it away. All it does is simply a reminder, to thread carefully.
MY Coffin sensitizes
Only if a kidnapper can buy a casket for himself today, and begin to lay inside, constantly reminding himself that death looms even as he goes about kidnapping and extorting money from families. It’s possible to realize at a point that all his activities will one day end up in a casket, and there, his flesh will rotten. The same is applicable to all evil doers. They need to realize, like in the famous book, “Waiting for Godot” that the world is bizarre and empty, as vanity plus vanity will always end up in vanity. Crime no dey pay jor.
My Coffin preaches:
Take a critical look at my image inside the coffin, it speaks volume. I always lay in my casket with my cap, glasses, shoes on. I’m always well dressed. Yes, it is always done intentionally to tell us that your glory disappears with all the wealth you must have acquired the very day you go to that coffin. Your glory-your cap goes with you, your vision-your glasses goes with you; your struggle-your shoes goes with you. The only thing left of you is your history and your legacy. The crux of the message is to leave a legacy, so we can live forever, not in the physical, but in people’s memories. As for me, I will live forever. You dey vex???
We are blind because of our fears
Who knows what any of us sees from the privacy of our own blindness? Make no mistake, each of us is blind in a particular way, just as each of us is sighted uniquely. Consider how each of us is blinded by what we fear. If we fear heights, we are blind to the humility vast perspectives bring. If we fear Passion, we are blind to the comfort of Oneness. If we fear change, we are blind to the abundance of life. If we fear death, we are blind to the mystery of the unknown. And since to fear is something thoroughly human, to be blind is unavoidable. It is what each of us must struggle to overcome. To a large degree, I have overcome my fear of death, all I ask God, is that may my death not be painful. I’m sure some of you know how my cousin who was killed by kidnappers died an agonising death. You see, in the course of our lives, we all stumble and struggle, repeatedly, in and out of relationship, in and out of the grace of the hidden wholeness of life, most of us struggle and stumble with the uncertainty of tomorrow as Nigerians. I have discovered that in the course of our lives, and as blind children, we may never know what we are called to be until we have learned what we are called to become by simply overcoming our fear. In life death is the most important reminder of all activities. Abi you dey vex???
